Is The Slate Digital Everything Bundle Worth It?

I get asked pretty often how I can travel around the world mixing records on a laptop without all of my great analog gear that I bought back home.  People always ask me, “Do you miss your console?!”  When I tell them I love my software that allows me the freedom to mix anywhere they always ask, “Is the Slate Digital Everything Bundle worth it?”

Is The Slate Digital Everything Bundle Worth It?

So I get a lot of people asking me if the Slate Digital Everything Bundle is worth it.  Before you decide if it’s the right move for you lets talk about why people are skeptical.

I am very passionate about changing industries and markets.  I am obsessed with what my generation and the generations to come have done to business.  We have single-handedly turned each and every industry upside down and inside out since the dawn of the dot-com era.  We live in a share economy where Netflix kills Blockbuster, Airbnb attacks the hotel industry, and Uber changes the way that we travel.

I’m excited for when The New Economy’s industry model gets a hold of the collegiate, banking, and real estate world.  We’re going to take that shit over, too!

The New Recording Industry

But what about recording?  Well, let me tell you about my humble beginnings.  At the age of 9, I woke up on Christmas morning.  My step-dad saw that I took interest in playing guitar so he and my mother bought me a PA system, an electric guitar, and a Yamaha 4-track recorder.  I only had 4 tracks of voices at a time to record on!  Now in DAW’s we have sometimes over 100 tracks!

Fast forward a few years and I got a sandblaster sound card and my first DAW – Cool Edit Pro.  Then in 2007, another Christmas came.  My parents ordered me a white CD’R from another New Jersey recording native that was shaking things up in the recording world.  And there it was… Steven Slate Drum Samples.  All of the sudden I had access to great drum samples to help fix my crappy drum recordings.

So I’ve been following Slate for years and have used most of his products.  I always thought that Slate and I had something in common.  We both grew up in New Jersey, used 4-track tape recorders to get started in recording, loved rock music, and spent way too much time in recording forums.  Except he ended up in Forbes magazine and I’m still trying to figure out who’s dick I have to suck to get my hands on a Virtual Microphone System in Thailand.

So what has changed in the recording industry in recent years and why is it good news for us?

We now have access to incredibly accurate analog modeled gear in the digital space.  Thanks to amazing plugin developers throughout the industry the average home recording musician has access to tools that I would have had to pay an arm and a leg to access when I started.

So why are people skeptical to get the Slate Digital Everything Bundle?  Some people don’t like the subscription model.  Is the subscription model for the Slate Digital Everything Bundle worth it? Here’s why I personally love the subscription model – especially for those just starting out… It makes it easy and affordable for everyone!

Traveling Mix Engineer

This year I decided that I wanted to travel all over Southeast Asia.  But I had one major problem.  I have a lot of gear and I LOVE mixing and making music.  There was just no way that I could walk away from my console, all of my outboard gear, and my equipment that I’ve spent the last 15 years collecting.  Until I tested myself and mixed a record on a laptop in an Applebees for a client using my Slate Digital Bundle.  The client loved the mix and between my plugins from Slate Digital, UAD, Fabfilter, and JST I didn’t need my outboard gear.  I was so excited!  I now travel all over mixing records on planes, trains, beaches, and mountains.  And my clients are just as thrilled with the results as I am.

For less than the price of the plate of ribs and craft beer you snuck during lunch break today, you can access great sounding console emulations, tube emulations, preamp emulations, compressors, EQs, tape saturation, and just about anything that you need.

The Everything Bundle is aptly named because it literally has everything that you would need to mix a great record.

Check out this video here where I mixed a song using Slate Digital plugins and my apple earbuds after I forgot my headphones to see just how powerful these plugins are!
